Lochenheath Golf Club
Jason’s Review:
Located in Traverse City, LochenHeath is one of Michigan’s highest ranked private golf clubs. LochenHeath is of Scottish origin. “Loch” is translated as lake and “Heath” is a native grass. The property, a scenic bluff overlooking East Grand Traverse Bay in the upper Lower Peninsula of Northern Michigan, was once a cherry orchard owned and operated for over 75 years by the Maitland family. The course hugs the shore of Grand Traverse Bay, offering sweeping views of its crystal blue waters.
I find LochenHeath to be one of the most demanding courses in all of Michigan. Although some shots and holes seem to be relatively benign, you quickly find out that precision and shot making are at an absolute premium! There are greens with so much slope to them that getting anywhere close to certain pin positions is sheer folly. LochenHeath is definitely a course that needs some imagination and a well-stocked golf bag… because you will need every club and probably every ball in your bag! This tremendous facility is working with Michigan Golf Trips.com to allow for outside play for groups.
