American Dunes

Jason’s Review:

As a tour operator who every day talks to someone about how one course compares to another, I believe that anything a course can do separate themselves from the “other guys” is a major bonus. I cannot think of any stop I have made recently where this is more true than to American Dunes Golf Club in Grand Haven, Michigan. Formerly known as Grand Haven Golf Club, American Dunes is the brainchild of Lt. Dan Rooney and one of his biggest supporters, Jack Nicklaus. I will let you read up on the history of their joint venture by CLICKING HERE. It is a story worth knowing.

From the minute you step on to the property you are taken aback by a sense of patriotism. Whether you are a veteran, have military in your family, or just have an appreciation for what our Armed Forces represent, American Dunes will touch you in some way shape or form. From the concrete walk honoring fallen soldiers… to revelry being played every morning… to the video messages that pop up in your cart along the way… prepare yourself for a golf round unlike any other.

As for the actual golf course, the predominant word is FUN. The Nicklaus Team removed hundreds of overgrown trees to open up the layout and expose some of the natural landscape previously hidden. I would call this a “softer” Nicklaus design where water hazards and forced carries are few and far between and most greens can be approached in a variety of ways. I am convinced that any level of golfer comes off the course happy, so do yourself a favor and add American Dunes to your personal bucket list. It is well worth the trip!!
